Fine Art Printmaking and Illustration
Shoot Protons and Tickle Electrons, Vattenhallen Science Center, Lund, Sweden
This project was commissioned by the Vattenhallen Science Center, in collaboration with Stanley J. Micklavzina, MS, and in conjunction with ESS, Lund University Physics, and MAX IV Synchrotron Radiation Laboratory.
The Shoot Protons and Tickle Electrons (Skjuta Protoner och Kittla Elektroner) exhibit educates the public about the science involved in the range of experiments conducted at the MAX IV facility and their benefits to everyday life. Our commission was to create an interactive installation that allows the public to experience the effects of various wavelengths of light. We explored the interplay between art and science, and how we might use this relationship to illustrate the concepts for visitors to the Science Center. The result is Ljus Ger Färg/Light Gives Color, a layered piece I created that reveals different colors and imagery when exposed to different wavelengths. It is part of the permanent collection.

These photos show the piece in progress and show examples of how various colors and wavelengths of light highlight different aspects of the painting.
In 2002 I was offered a special opportunity to illustrate and provide the art direction for Small Graces, a children’s prayer book, published by Solsidan House in 2004.
In addition to creating all of the hand-carved relief prints used to illustrate the book, I was responsible for graphic design for Solsidan House. This included logos, creating adjunct lines of greeting cards based on the illustrations and prayers contained in the book, and all elements of book design.
It was a tremendous experience, which taught me so much about printmaking and affirmed why this technique suits my creative expression so well. I enjoyed interpreting the prayers and songs into images, and especially liked the challenge of translating the more abstract concepts.
While the book is no longer available commercially, I am happy to offer the remaining copies for sale.
The book is a high quality, cloth bound hardcover, featuring three chapters; morning prayers, mealtime prayers, and evening prayers. Each chapter has its own unique border illustration. A smaller illustration which reflects the specific content of each page is inset at the base of each border.
It measures 8½" x 11", 48 pages, including special pages at the back for children to record their own special prayers and thanksgivings.

In 2013, I had the honour of being chosen for the second time to participate in an Artist Residency at Playa in Eastern Oregon. Among the many wonderful, talented artists and writers I met there was Kristin Berger, a gentle, introspective poet from Portland, Oregon. A few years after our meeting, Kristin approached me about providing illustrations for a long poem she was writing entitled Changing Woman, Changing Man. It is filled with the unique character and sensations of Eastern Oregon and I was utterly taken by the poem from my first reading. We are continuing our collaboration to create an illustrated, published edition of her extraordinary poetic tale.
What follows are the 11 linocut illustrations I have created for Kristin. They are my interpretations of the dreamlike, rhythmic observations of her two iconic characters, Changing Woman and Changing Man and titled with excerpts from the text.
All are single color linocut prints created as Open Editions, meaning their production is not capped at a specific number of prints, as in a Limited Edition.
Image sizes are 4” x 6” on 8” x 10” white, acid free paper.
$45 for each original, unmatted print.
